EKHLA’s mission is to prepare confident students through high academic and
behavioral standards, grounded in Hebrew language and Israeli culture.
 
Eleanor Kolitz Hebrew Language Academy (EKHLA) is an open-enrollment K–8 public charter school that welcomes all students and offers Hebrew in a daily 45-minute instructional setting. Our innovative curriculum is led by passionate educators and supported by learning experiences beyond the classroom. Teachers build meaningful connections while nurturing curious learners with strong values and a sense of responsibility. We know every child as an individual and foster a community grounded in kindness, respect, and inclusivity. Students leave EKHLA ready to discover who they are and pursue their goals with purpose.

The Eleanor Kolitz Hebrew Language Academy (EKHLA) opened in August 2013 in San Antonio as a K-8 tuition free public charter school. Since opening our doors, EKHLA has become one of San Antonio’s premier public charter schools recognized for high academic achievement, Hebrew language instruction, inclusive environment. EKHLA offers a wide variety of enrichment classes and athletics opportunities, in a strong community of parent partners.  Celebrating over a decade of a TEA “A” rated campus, EKHLA has a proven model for high student performance. where learning, language, and community thrive together.  

Our Story, EKHLA’s 10 + years of Excellence

2013 – Launch

EKHLA opens as a pioneering public charter school offering Hebrew

language instruction, serving nearly 200 students in grades K-8

 

Momentum

Enrollment and programs grow steadily. EKHLA meets state accountability standards and establishes a culture of academic excellence and language learning.

2017 — Recognition & Expansion

Texas introduces the A–F rating system. EKHLA is recognized

as a high-performing public charter

2018–2019 — Academic Strength

Student achievement continues to accelerate across grades and subjects, with increasing statewide performance indicators and enrollment expansion.

2020–2021 — Resilience through Challenge

Amid COVID-19 disruptions, statewide ratings pause, yet EKHLA maintains instructional continuity, student engagement, and Hebrew language programming.

2022–2023 — Excellence Confirmed

With accountability restored, EKHLA earns an A Rating from the Texas Education Agency, demonstrating strong performance across multiple academic indicators.

2023–2025 — Consistent High Achievement

EKHLA receives another A Rating—including top marks in Student Achievement—reflecting sustained excellence, student growth, and closing achievement gaps.
